Ottawa police are recommending residents be vigilant in the Empress Avenue area following a purse-snatching Thursday night.
The theft occurred when the female victim was approached by a man in his 40s riding a bicycle at about 6:50 p.m. When she reached the stairs behind the palliative care institute, the suspect jumped from his bike and grabbed the purse after a short struggle.
The victim was not injured and the suspect fled on a black mountain bike west along Primrose Avenue.
He was described as Caucasian in his 40s, five-feet-10-inches (178 cm) tall, wearing a black rain jacket with hood, and dark jeans.
