Will we be puddle-jumping or shovelling? The suspense!

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning that a low-pressure system will track over Southern Ontario this weekend, potentially bringing “significant” snow or rain.

But weather watchers aren’t sure what track the system will follow so it’s not clear which one is going to fall in Ottawa.

“At this time the most significant snowfall is expected for areas north of a line from Lake Simcoe to Ottawa,” the weather agency says. “South of this line, precipitation is expected to fall mostly as rain.”

The worst of it is expected during the day Saturday and into Saturday night with forecast flurries tapering off Sunday.

Meanwhile, for Thursday, periods of rain are forecast to end in the morning and then there’s a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high of 8 C. Overnight, there’s a 40 per cent chance of showers or flurries. Skies clear overnight with a low of -6 C.

Friday is expected to be mainly sunny with a high of -2 C and low of -6 C.

For Saturday, expect the aforementioned periods of rain or snow with a high of 2 C and low of 0 C.

Sunday’s forecast is for clouds, a 60 per cent chance of snow, a high of 1 C and low of -9 C.

Monday’s a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of flurries day and night, a high of -2 C and a low of -6 C.

There’s the same mixed skies 30 per cent chance of flurries in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday with highs of 2 C and 1 C respectively.
