For the second year in a row, riders on Gatineau’s Société de transport de l’Outaouais will ring in the New Year with a fare hike.
As of Jan. 1, an adult monthly pass will cost $97 (up from $95), while a single-fare ticket will be up a dime to $3.85.
The 1.9 per cent increase reflects rising operating costs, says the STO’s new president, Point Gatineau Coun. Myriam Nadeau.
It also follows a year of labour disruption, including rotating one-day strikes, that left ridership in a foul mood.
The new budget, which goes to council for ratification Dec. 18, includes lower fares for those on limited incomes. Qualified individuals will get a 30 per cent discount on monthly passes (now $64) and prepaid single pass (now $2.60).
It’s the same price paid by students under 20.
