Ottawa police patrol officers and the tactical team are outside a home in the Heatherington Road area in the south end where sources say a robbery suspect armed with a gun has retreated.
The operation began with a call to police from a Heatherington Road Tim Horton’s.
A police spokesman confirmed that a police operation is underway after an investigation of a 10:26 a.m. call led police to a home on Angela Private near the corner of Heatherington Road.
“From there, the investigation pursued to this location,” spokesman Const. Chuck Benoit said.
Nearby homes have not been evacuated, he said, however a neighbour told this newspaper that some residents had been told to retreat to their basements.
The neighbour said that a young woman was involved in the incident and that two young girls were believed to be in the house on Angela Private.
There was a heavy police presence at the scene with members of the tactical team seen on the street and in residents’ backyards and an armoured truck on the street.
