A parish community affected by fire was able to hold its Christmas Eve service thanks to the help of a nearby church.

Dozens of people from the Living Waters Christian Assembly gathered at the nearby Woodvale Pentecostal Church on Greenbank Road early Sunday morning to band together for the mass.

Living Water’s pastor Syd Curry thanked those in attendance and said efforts to rebuild the parish are underway.

In a post on Canada Helps Org., the Living Waters Christian Assembly says that, in addition to the church proper at 105 Slack Rd., the building lost a long list of items related to its activities and programs which will also need to be replaced.

Church officials were not available to discuss their plans, but in a Facebook post they noted their annual Carols and Candlelight service would be held Sunday at noon at the ministry centre at Woodvale Pentecostal Church at 205 Greenbank Rd.

The Nepean church burned to the ground in a dramatic blaze Thursday afternoon and evening. By the time firefighters arrived, the building was engulfed in flames and they could not enter the building.

After the blaze was extinguished hours later, the firefighters began work putting out hot spots. It was demolished Friday.

Ottawa Fire Services is investigating the cause of the fire and the case has been automatically flagged to the provincial Office of Fire Marshal because of the severe damage.

The fundraiser ends January 31, 2018. You can find it at www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/help-to-rebuild-living-waters-ca-rev457-ottawa-105/
