A long list of outdoor events marking the New Year on Parliament Hill were abruptly listed as cancelled Friday morning.
The Canada 150 closing party, which was scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Sunday, has been scratched along with daytime events including free coffee and hot chocolate from Tim Hortons, performances by buskers, percussionists and even learning Algonquin in a tipi.
The cancellations are marked on the Canadian Heritage events page without any explanation, but it was presumed to be weather related.
Sunday’s forecast is for a high of -20 C and low of -24 C.
The New Year’s Eve show was to feature DJ Shub and hiphop perfomer Kardinal Offishall. “Crazy luminous characters will be mingling playfully” with the crowd, organizers said.
Revelers can still hit the Hill for public skating, the winter lightscapes multi-media show, illuminated tipis and to check out the newly-expanded Centennial Flame.
