Nothing like a little freezing rain “watch” to start the day off.
It’s all part of this week’s crazy patchwork of weather extremes and the freezing rain is described as a signal of a warm front coming in overnight.
The slippery stuff could arrive in late afternoon or evening across southern and eastern Ontario.
“Latest analysis suggests that the freezing rain will be fairly light and patchy,” Environment Canada says. “Temperatures are expected to rise above the freezing mark this evening with the passage of the warm front ending the threat of freezing rain.”
The conditions could persist a little longer across the Ottawa Valley, the agency says, “although amounts are still expected to be light.”
“The area is being monitored for potential freezing rain warnings,” Environment Canada said.
Meanwhile, fog patches greeted early commuters Wednesday with temperatures of about -14 C.
The thermometer is expected to rise to a high of -3 C, with moderate winds this afternoon.
Clouds should get heavier buy Thursday night, with the freezing rain or snow beginning early this evening, changing to drizzle by about midnight. The temperature should climb to 5 C by Thursday morning.
Then comes a couple of days of unseasonably warm temps with showers.
Thursday’s high is expected to hit 7 C, with a 60 per cent chance of showers, dipping to a low of 2 C.
Mixed precipitation is expected into Friday, with a high of 2 C.
Then begins the slide into more seasonal conditions, with alow Friday night of -12 C.
Saturday is expected to have periods of snow, with mostly cloudy conditions and a high of -9 C.
The snow should pick up Saturday night with the thermometer plunging to -22 C.
Sunday looks to be clear and cold, with a high of -16 C, and a low of -23 C.
