A woman who opened the door to an elderly woman wandering in the Hunt Club area without winter clothing during a frostbite advisory early Tuesday morning may have saved her from serious injury or even death, paramedics said.

The Good Samaritan saw the woman walking on Uplands Drive near Paul Anka Drive at 6:15 a.m. She took the octogenarian into her home, provided her with warm clothes and called 911.

Responding paramedics found she’d suffered minor frostbite and mild hypothermia. They used heating packs to rewarm her and took her to the hospital where she was in stable condition.

The woman, whose preexisting medical condition isn’t known, was walking towards a large park. Left outdoors, she could have been in critical condition in as little as 30 minutes, paramedics spokesman Marc-Antoine Deschamps said.

“We would like to recognize the amazing actions of this citizen who did not hesitate to help a stranger in distress,” he said.
