Ottawa police will be doing rolling road closures along the route of the Women’s March on Saturday and are asking drivers who expect to be downtown in the afternoon to consider alternate routes.
The march, which begins on Parliament Hill at noon, will travel west on Wellington Street from Parliament Hill, travel south on Bank Street before turning west on Laurier Avenue, then south on Bronson Avenue.
The march is expected to end at the Bronson Centre, 211 Bronson Avenue.
Marches are being held in cities around the world this weekend to mark the one-year anniversary of U.S. President Donald Trump’s swearing-in, which sparked a movement to encourage more women to exercise their voices in politics. Marches are also being held in Beijing, Buenos Aires, Nairobi and Rome Tweet under #WeekendofWomen on social media.
Ottawa organizers say the event is open to any individual who supports the notion that “Women’s Rights are Human Rights.”
