A fire over the noon-hour in Orléans was so powerful that, at one point, responders had to get out for safety reasons during a search for occupants.
Ultimately, Ottawa Fire Services found no one was at home and no injuries were reported.
Crews were called to 834 Vinette Cres. in Queenswood Village at 11:46 a.m. by a 911 call from a passerby who reported heavy smoke coming from the chimney and vents.
Firefighters spotted a dog barking at the window but there was no immediate word on the animal’s fate.
The fire department were still on their way to the scene when a second alarm was sounded to marshal extra resources based on the passerby’s information.
They were met by flames and heavy smoke when they arrived.

Crews went inside the house but were called off for safety reasons when a hole developed in the floor so they worked to douse the flames from the outside.

Police, paramedics and gas and hydro crews were all dispatched to the scene, as was a fire investigator.
An OC Transpo bus was also onsite to allow firefighters to rotate through for short breaks.
More to come
