The inquest into the death of a 27-year-old prisoner at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre will begin April 9 at Ottawa City Hall.
Youssef Mohammed Hussein died April 12, 2016, after being transferred from the jail to the Ottawa Hospital. An inquest is mandatory because he was in custody at the time.
Hussein was found hanged while in solitary confinement. He was awaiting trial on six charges of sexual assault against a series of women, plus other offences.
The inquest is expected to last five days and to hear from approximately 21 witnesses. Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion will be the inquest coroner.
