Police say the public helped them find and arrest a suspect in the theft of a “significant” sum from a Pembroke ATM using a card accidentally left behind in the machine.

Ronald Earl Biscope, 44, of Pembroke was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, Upper Ottawa Valley OPP reported Thursday. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Pembroke March 20.

On Tuesday, police released surveillance video and asked the public to help them identify a suspect.

They were investigating a Jan. 22 incident in which a customer using an ATM left their bank card in the machine.

The cash was stolen when a subsequent user continued the transaction, police said.
