A man has been charged with careless driving after he was caught allegedly urinating in a bottle while driving a tractor trailer on Highway 401.
Ontario Provincial Police arrived at the scene on Thursday around 3:45 p.m. in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township, after reports of a tractor-trailer dangerously swerving in and out of lanes.
The Greater Toronto Area-man, 24, was located and charged with careless driving. He was not identified by the OPP.
The OPP said they are cracking down on distracted drivers during their March Break campaign.
“We see all different types of distraction,” said Const. Sandra Barr.
“We hear of drivers that would carry on such an activity when they’re driving and then throwing it out the window. So then you’re looking at a whole other gamut of issues.”
With OnRoute and Highway Service Centres across Highway 401, the OPP is urging drivers to keep their eyes on the road and remain patient when nature calls.
“There’s all kinds of different little towns and cities that you could stop at if you don’t want to stop at a service centre,” said Barr. “There’s no excuse for it.”
Careless drivers could receive up to six demerit points and a fine of $490.
