Val-des-Monts is developing a watershed management plan and it wants input from people who live or have cottages there.
The plan will covers the Blanche Ouest River watershed, which takes in St. Pierre de Wakefield, Val-des-Monts and McGregor Lake, as well as smaller lakes and rivers.
The municipality says a draft plan addresses “the major environmental issues facing our region and puts forward solutions designed to protect, restore and properly develop our water resources. Specifically, the plan details the watershed area and its challenges, recommends objectives and policy directions and lists specific measures to that end.
“The first phase of this major planning exercise has just ended, with the resulting study report submitted to Val-des-Monts’ municipal council” a month ago.
The next step will be consulting residents and cottage owners.
“We want to hear your concerns and aspirations as they relate to our critical water resources. Whether you’re a shoreline resident or someone living kilometres away from a waterway, you have a direct stake in the health and quality of the Blanche Ouest watershed,” the municipality says.
It plans to send out details on consultations “in the coming weeks.” Consultation will last until mid-summer.
People who want to know more are asked to contact André Turcotte, director of the environment and urban planning service, at 819-457-9400, ext. 2307 or andreturcotte@val-des-monts.net.
