The good news: Mother Nature is about to hit the spring switch. Seriously.
Saturday’s forecast of mixed skies and 11 C is just a warm up. Sunday and Monday’s outlook is for pure sunshine and highs of 14 C and 15 C.
The bad news is Tuesday’s forecast as the city recovers from Monday’s ice storm.
There isn’t a watch or warning in sight – for once – but it includes fog, periods of snow mixed with rain in the morning with the risk of freezing drizzle, southwest winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40 and a high of just 4 C.
For Tuesday evening, there’s 60 per cent chance of rain or flurries switching to a 40 per cent chance of flurries and a low of 0 C.
Hydro Ottawa, which announced Monday that it was working to restore power to 16,00o customers, most of them in south and central Ottawa, was reporting 11 remaining areas without power Tuesday morning but the largest affected 184 customers in Stittsville-Kanata West.
The Ottawa Carleton District School Board reported that buses to all of its schools were running but that Manotick Public School and Manor Park School remained closed due to sustained power outages. Heritage Public School is closed due to an ongoing outage.
The Ottawa Catholic School Board reported that all buses are running and schools open.
Wednesday’s forecast is for a 40 per cent chance of flurries switching to rain in the morning, westerly winds at 20 km/h gusting to 40 and a high of 6 C. There’s a 30 per cent chance of rain or flurries overnight and a high of 6 C.
There’s a 30 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries Thursday, a high of 6 C and a low of 0 C.
For Friday, there’s a 30 per cent chance of showers – no flurries, just April showers – with a high of 8 C and a low of -1 C.
Then we’re into a string of sunny, spring-like days.
