The roof of a Bayshore Drive parking garage collapsed and about two dozen vehicles were damaged in an overnight fire but crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
Multiple 911 calls drew firefighters to a carport 40 Bayshore Dr. at 12:51 a.m. Thursday. The first crews on the scene reported that the flames from a vehicle had spread to the carport and were licking up the side of an adjoining townhouse.
They immediately declared a second-alarm fire to bring more firefighters and equipment to the scene south of Carling Avenue.
The fire was under control at 2:06 a.m. with crews taking a defensive stance to protect the row of five homes.
A fire investigator was on the scene determining the cause and dollar loss Thursday morning.
More to come.
