Parts of Gatineau Park reopened Saturday, including several of the main trails, and cyclists can hit the parkways and paved trails with caution, says the National Capital Commission.

However, the planned reopening of the parkways to vehicles, scheduled for May 4, has been postponed.

Gatineau Park closed on April 16 because of damage caused by the freezing rain storm. Crews have removed large branches and trees, although none of the shelters or other buildings were damaged, said the NCC in a media release.

ALSO: Finally: spring arrives with sunshine and warmer weather this weekend

Biking is now possible only on the parkways and paved trails, although there is still considerable snow, ice and debris on them, according to the NCC.

Officials say they will soon be asking for volunteers to help get the trails back in shape.

In the meantime, here is what is open and closed:

Open: All parking lots that give access to the main trails, such as Laurialt Trail, Sugarbush Trail, Capital Trail and Pioneers Trail, except Parking lot No. 13 at Meech Lake (Wolf Trail is closed) and the parking lot and trail for Luskville Falls.

Closed: All backcountry trails, including snowshoe and snow bike trails, and all rock climbing sites.
