What should have been a routine fire call turned into a 12-truck affair in east Gatineau on Friday evening.
A breakdown of the water system meant that Gatineau fire needed 30 firefighters and 12 trucks to supply water to extinguish a house fire at 176 Garnier, a two-storey house and apartment. The fire started in the kitchen.
The lone occupant, an elderly man, was not injured but received care from the Red Cross.
The fire started at 5:20 and was under control in about 45 minutes but two close to two hours to put out entirely.
Damage is estimated at $62,000. The municipal water issue was rectified later in the evening.
