Firefighters in Gatineau spent two hours overnight battling a fire in a commercial building at 321 Lanoraie that caused $85,000 damage.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at Claude Bisson landscapers at 11:47 p.m. It took 31 firefighters from 12 fire vehicles to fight the fire in the two-storey structure. It was brought under control at 1:44 a.m. Firefighters were able to protect a nearby garage in which the company’s heavy machinery was stored. There were no injuries and investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
It was the second fire of the night in Gatineau. At 7 p.m. firefighters were called to 177 Rue de Ganymede for a fierce fire that started in a garage and threatened to spread to nearby structures. Despite a rapid attack by firefighters, the flames damaged three sheds, a fence and six houses before it was brought under control 45 minutes later.
The fire was caused by a deep fat fryer being used in the garage. Damage was estimated at $80,000.
