Ottawa police have charged a husband with stabbing his wife in a violent Mother’s Day outburst in Navan that ended after he was stabbed by the couple’s daughter.
Jeff Lambert, 58, remains in hospital but has been charged with six counts of aggravated assault and assault for the attack on his family.
Police responded to a 911 emergency call to Kentucky Lane in the city’s southeast end on Sunday after Lambert’s son reported that his sister had stabbed their father.
Officers arrived to find Lambert with what paramedics described as multiple life-threatening stab wounds. Despite suffering more serious injuries than his wife or daughter, detectives allege Lambert was the aggressor.
Police believe Lambert first stabbed his wife, 49, in the lower body. Their daughter, 23, then intervened and repeatedly stabbed him.
The daughter was also taken to hospital with cuts and scrapes to her head and lower body. No criminal charges related to the incident have been laid against her.
Lambert is expected to appear in court on Wednesday. He has yet to make an in-person appearance while he remains in hospital. His injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.
