Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for the murder of Joey Morin, a Gatineau man who was found dead in his home on April 21.
The man, who police say was a close friend of Morin’s, was arrested in Rouyn-Noranda, more than 500 kilometres away from Gatineau.
Morin, 23, was found dead in the basement of a home in the Lac-Beauchamp neighbourhood of Gatineau. While police had not previously released the cause of death, they said in a statement Tuesday afternoon that Morin was killed after being hit in the head with a blunt object some time between April 13 and 21.
Gatineau police said the suspect, who was unnamed, had fled the Outaouais region after the incident. His arrest was the result of a joint investigation between Gatineau and provincial police forces.
Morin’s death is the second homicide in Gatineau this year.
The suspect was to appear in a Rouyn-Noranda court on Wednesday.
