A francophone-majority riding that includes the municipalities of Clarence-Rockland, Township of Russell, Alfred and Plantagenet, the Nation, Casselman, Hawkesbury, Champlain, North Glengarry plus that part of Ottawa located in the former municipality of Cumberland.
Covering 2,979 sq. km, this riding is home to 109,980 people.
The candidates:
Liberal – Pierre Leroux
Has been a resident of Russell Township for more than 16 years and is currently the mayor. Prior to that he owned and operated two dépanneur/vidéo store locations in Embrun and Casselman. He has served as an Embrun volunteer firefighter, and in 2010, was elected as a municipal councillor. He was elected mayor in 2014.
PC – Amanda Simard
A lifelong resident of the riding. Currently serving as a municipal councillor, she is fluently bilingual in both French and English. She was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Millennium Scholarship for leadership, innovation, academic excellence, and community service. She holds a law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Ottawa and has extensive experience working on Parliament Hill in various capacities, including as a policy advisor.
NDP – Bonnie Jean-Louis
A community organizer, environmental advocate and long-time volunteer. She is a recreation, sport and community coordinator with the Town of Hawkesbury, and was vice-president of stewardship Ontario for Prescott-Russell from 2009 to 2012.
Green Party – Daniel Reid
Has had a 20-year career in education as a computer science teacher. He holds a Masters of Education from the University of Western Ontario. He lives in Embrun.
Libertarian – Darcy Neal Donnelly
Grew-up performing chores on the family farm with his five siblings in the riding. He holds a small business administration diploma from Centennial College. He is a self-owner operator performing the function of a commercial truck driver based in the riding.
Ontario Party – Joel Charbonneau
