A Gatineau police lieutenant is to face a disciplinary hearing after pleading guilty to a charge of impaired driving.

Lt. Christian Cousineau was fined $1,200 and had his license suspended for a year.

The offence occurred Dec. 4, 2014, when a Gatineau squad car found Cousineau asleep at the wheel of his parked personal car at 3:45 a.m. on Maloney Boulevard West at the intersection of Montée Paiement.

Cousineau was off-duty at the time.

Tests and interrogations were handled by the Sûreté du Québec.

The officer has been on administrative duty since the incident.

The force notes in a release that the Police Act specifies that an officer convicted of an indictable offense by summary conviction faces dismissal “unless he demonstrates that special circumstances warrant other sanction.”

The force said Cousineau will have to submit to a disciplinary committee hearing. The disciplinary committee will issue the final ruling on his job.

No date was specified for the hearing.
