Should students call teachers by their first name? Discuss. @joelwestheimer

......@willywillster
No! It’s a show of respect for their elders. What kind of people are we trying to raise?

I'm an EA and I've always asked the students to call me just Lily. It doesnt matter what they call me; respect is shown through how we treat one another.

Teachers can offer, not ask to be called by first name. Have a little respect for the students for crying out loud.

And pretty much the same responses I reading here today as were made then.

One does not appreciate their parents until they have children of their own. Students do not appreciate their teacher until they had to teach themselves.
Yet, what sort of society are we raising that children are not disciplined, not knowing the value of their elders. White wash....

It requires them to make the tough decisions and we are doing less and less to prepare them for it.
