Winnipeg - It's time to grab your video camera and start rolling because the
National Screen Institute - Canada (NSI) wants your amateur five-minute
movie for the first ever NSI National Exposure Amateur Movie Contest,
presented by Rogers.
Whether you're an aspiring filmmaker or simply want to give movie making a
shot, NSI National Exposure Amateur Movie Contest is the perfect place to
showcase your talents. By entering the contest you'll not only get the
chance to pocket cash and prizes, but your film may be screened to a packed
theatre audience during the NSI FilmExchange Canadian Film Festival on 6
March 2004.
The closing date for entries is 16 February 2004. For full details,
including rules and an application form, visit:
www.nsi-canada.ca/filmexchange/exposure. There you can also access the NSI
30 Second Film School to pick up tips from an industry insider.
NSI National Exposure - formerly Local Exposure - has been running in
Winnipeg for a number of years. But, for the first time, this year the
contest opens up its doors to filmmakers across Canada* and entries are
expected to be more diverse than ever before. Sponsorship from Rogers means
that the contest will be rolled out in over 270 Rogers Video outlets
throughout Canada.
Bill Evans, Director of NSI FilmExchange Canadian Film Festival says, "NSI
National Exposure proves you don't have to be an expert to make a film, you
just need a good idea and a video camera. And because we're now able to
offer the contest nationally, we expect the talent pool to be even greater."
A panel of specialists from the television and film industry will choose 12
finalists. Awards of $100 will be presented to the Best Director, Best
Actor or Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Film Under 18 and Best Film from
Manitoba. During the NSI FilmExchange Canadian Film Festival the audience
will select a grand prize ($1,000) and second prize ($500) People's Choice
Award.
In 2003, Nathan Boey from Winnipeg won the People's Choice Award for Best
Film for his entry Nothing Beats Rock. Nathan says, "The contest is a real
stepping stone for filmmakers - it gave me exposure to other people in the
industry and encouraged me to believe in myself. It even led me to produce
the TV commercial to promote this year's contest. If you're thinking about
entering - go for it, you won't regret it."
The National Screen Institute - Canada, with headquarters in Winnipeg, is
one of Canada's four nationally recognized film and television training
schools. With over 80% of NSI graduates working in the industry, our
participants don't just learn about the process - they live it.
The National Screen Institute - Canada operates with ongoing funding from
Telefilm Canada through Canadian Heritage, and Manitoba Culture, Heritage
and Tourism. Additional support provided by Patrons: Global Television
Network, CTV and CBC Television. Further support provided by our Partners:
Alliance Atlantis and Warner Bros. Entertainment (Canada) Inc.
*The contest is open to all residents of Canada except residents of Quebec,
employees (and those persons with whom they are domiciled) of National
Screen Institute - Canada, Rogers, Taylor George Design, and of the

involved in the Contest
