The City’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee today approved its draft budget for 2019, which includes $7.2 million to renew rural infrastructure, including bridges, guiderails and roads. In addition to investments covered through other Committees, the proposed budget would invest $42.7 million to upgrade Ottawa’s rural infrastructure.
The draft budget also allocates $550,000 for the planning and scoping of a new community building in the rural west.
In a move to make the Site Plan Control process more efficient, the Committee approved a new fee structure and streamlined process for applications. Site Plan Control ensures land development is safe, functional, designed appropriately and has a minimal impact on neighbouring properties.
The changes would ensure that application fees recover the real cost of the work. They would also reduce the number of small-scale developments requiring Site Plan Control, freeing up staff time to focus on more complex applications. The Planning Committee approved these changes on Thursday, February 14.
The Committee also approved appointments to the Mohr’s Landing / Quyon Port Authority, the Rural Panel of the Committee of Adjustment, and the boards of management for the business improvement areas of Carp Village, Carp Road Corridor and Manotick.
Regular items approved at today’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee meeting will go to City Council on Wednesday, February 27. The Committee’s portion of the draft budget will go to Council on Wednesday, March 6.
