Ottawa police say Alexandre Baron, the 13-year-old boy missing from his south end home since Tuesday, has been found and that police are with the family “at this tragic time.”
Police were not giving any other details but said foul play is not suspected.
Alexandre had been the subject of a search by police, friends and family since he left home after an argument about doing his homework.
His family posted notices on Facebook and printed up posters that they distributed around the neighbourhood. His mother, Heidi Hardy, searched ravines and ditches and waded along Sawmill Creek, which runs near their house.
About 60 people showed up to help with Thursday evening’s ground search. Others came out again Friday.
His body was discovered early Saturday evening, but police are not disclosing the location or the circumstances.
His school, St. Francis Xavier High School, circulated a commemoration note Sunday: “Our St. Francis Xavier community is mourning the death of one of our students, Alexandre Baron. This is a devastating loss to the family, and our school community grieves as well. St. Francis Xavier School will be open to any students/parents this afternoon from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. We will have the School Social Worker and Psychologist with us on-site, and they will be available to anyone wishing to access this support. Additional information regarding support for our students as our week begins will be shared with you later today. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alexandre’s family, and we wish them peace in the difficult days ahead.”
The school says it is cancelling two events this week — spirit week and a haunted house.
