About Papanack Park Zoo
We are a family owned and operated facility that has been breeding exotic animals and birds since the early 1980's. Public curiosity prompted us to open to the public in 1994 and the interest we received that first year allowed us to begin to grow ... and we have been growing ever since.
White Lion cubs: Faith, Hope, Charity and Mareth William II
The 'Pride' of Papanack for 1998 are the White Lion Cubs born to Simba and Savannah on October 17th. They have raised quite a few eyebrows and brought much attention to Papanack already.
1995 saw the arrival of Georgina, a very rare Snow Leopard. Mohan the only registered Striped Hyena in Canada arrived in 1996 and in 1997, Ben and Bernice, two American Black Bears moved in to join the other animals at Papanack.
After 3 years of searching we finally found a compatible mate for Georgina. In May 1998 "Yashin" (appropriately named after a Russian Ottawa Senators Hockey Player by a group of school children) took up residence at the Zoo. On July 6th 1999 Gemini was born. This is the first Snow Leopard to be born at Papanack in our first year of breeding, which is a very exciting achievement for such a young Zoo.
We believe Papanack to be a "United Nations" of wildlife. Every resident animal is an ambassador of its species each with its own story to tell. Only by education we can stop the ticking clock, counting down to extinction for many of those creatures.
As you walk through the park, you will see Keith and Diane Forgie and Keith's parents Ken and Theresa. When you speak to them, or any of zookeepers and staff, you will understand the caring passion and dedication that goes in Papanack Park Zoo. We are not just another large commercial zoo, but one of a kind!
With so many species of animals becoming rare and endangered it is important to help those on the 'raft' of extinction by offering them a 'life preserver' until we can ultimately secure them a safe environment to flourish naturally once again. Usually it is because of Man, the most destructive predator on the earth, that these animals are on the brink of extinction in the first place. It is our obligation to our children to help to preserve those animals.
Experience in real life the things that you have only seen on television, in books, or on the Internet. Come to Papanack Park Zoo and experience an educational adventure of the lifetime!
