Judge upholds legacy agreement protecting Kanata golf course from redevelopment​

A Superior Court judge has upheld a legacy agreement protecting the Kanata Golf and Country Club from bulldozers.

ClubLink, concerned about a dwindling golf business, wants to transform the Kanata Golf and Country Club into a 1,544-home subdivision with development partners Richcraft Homes and Minto Communities.

The City of Ottawa asked the court to decide if a 1981 agreement between the former city of Kanata and Campeau Corp. was still in force. The agreement preserved 40 per cent of land in the Kanata Lakes area as natural space and the protected land includes the golf course.

In a decision released Friday, Justice Marc Labrosse delivered a huge win for the Kanata Lakes residents who have been fighting ClubLink’s redevelopment plans.

ClubLink didn’t say whether it would appeal the decision.
