Today, the Planning and Housing Committee approved its draft budget for 2023, which includes $82.5 million in operating funding and $20.1 million in capital funding related to planning. This includes $15 million to develop new affordable housing, $4.5 million to procure, customize and implement new Land Management System software, $240,000 to purchase four EV/Hybrid vehicles for building inspectors and $400,000 to update Ottawa’s growth-related by-laws in line with provincial legislation. Draft Budget 2023 estimates $63.1 million in revenue from fees and services.

Overall, the City would invest $17.5 million to develop more affordable and supportive housing for residents in greatest need, which includes $15 million in capital and $2.5 million in development charge exemptions. The City’s contribution of $15 million is anticipated to leverage the equivalent amount of new federal and provincial investment and is expected to result in the creation of up to 500 new supportive and affordable housing units per year over the next 10 years.
