Switzerland's biggest banking group has agreed to an emergency rescue deal aimed at stemming financial market panic

The market can turn its attention to the problem--the US regional banks.

The market is expecting an announcement tonight, before the Asia-pacific market opens, of Buffett investing some of his $128 billion in cash into several regional banks. let's see what kind of deals Buffett will get. The regional banks are a much bigger hole. If no announcement, watch out for tomorrow's market.

Under the deal with UBS,

Credit Suisse shareholders will receive 1 UBS share for every 22.48 Credit Suisse shares held, equivalent to 0.76 Swiss francs per share for a total consideration of 3 billion francs, UBS said.

Credit Suisse bondholders are major losers. The Swiss regulator decided that Credit Suisse bonds with a notional value of $17 billion will be valued at zero, angering some of the holders of the debt who thought they would be better protected than shareholders in a rescue deal announced on Sunday."

The deal favors the owners over the creditors. It is so different than bankruptcy. A lesson learned. Don't lend money to anyone even a big bank.

Fed: Coordinated central bank action to enhance the provision of U.S. dollar liquidity​

The Bank of Canada, the Bank of England, the Bank of Japan, the European Central Bank, the Federal Reserve, and the Swiss National Bank are today announcing a coordinated action to enhance the provision of liquidity via the standing U.S. dollar liquidity swap line arrangements.

To improve the swap lines' effectiveness in providing U.S. dollar funding, the central banks currently offering U.S. dollar operations have agreed to increase the frequency of 7-day maturity operations from weekly to daily. These daily operations will commence on Monday, March 20, 2023, and will continue at least through the end of April.

The network of swap lines among these central banks is a set of available standing facilities and serve as an important liquidity backstop to ease strains in global funding markets, thereby helping to mitigate the effects of such strains on the supply of credit to households and businesses.
