Host volunteers help you adapt to living in Canada by providing:
Friendship and emotional support
Support in learning English
Social orientation
Cultural orientation
Support with educational and/or employment issues
“Hosts” are Canadian friends. They are individuals, families or groups of different ethnic backgrounds who are:
Available to be matched with children or adults
17 years and older
Available about 2 hours a week for about 8 months
Open to lean and appreciate another culture
Willing to share their appreciation of Canada and their own cultural background
Matches are based on criteria such as similar interest, family size, age and profession. (Never match a young female with a young male.)
Procedures to follow through:
1 Contacts with Host Program Coordinator to enter your requirements and information into database.
2 Find a match.(waiting time depends on your requirement)
3 Arrange an appointment with host
4 Hosts will be committed about 2 hours a week for about 8 months
5 Host Program Coordinator will check police records and credit records for you to ensure reliability of the hosts.)
6 Host Program will organize activities every two or three months to gather all host-newcomers.
