Provincial police charged a 27-year-old Ottawa man with impaired driving and dangerous driving Thursday after he was stopped at about 4:30 a.m. while he was travelling in the wrong direction on the Queensway near Palladium Drive.
The driver allegedly registered more than twice the legal limit of alcohol.
Meanwhile, Ottawa police traffic officers put the brakes on a number of high-flyers on city roads overnight.
Offenders included drivers doing 144 and 109 kilometres an hour in the 60 km/h zone at Heron Road and Riverside Drive.
Two other drivers were caught doing 135 in the 80 km/h zone on Highway 174 near Trim Road.
All drivers were charged with stunt driving, their licenses were suspended and their vehicles automatically impounded.
