The Emergency Preparedness and Protective Services Committee today received the results of Ottawa Fire Services’ 2025 Station Location Study, which aims to ensure fire stations are placed appropriately throughout Ottawa for prompt and effective emergency response. Based on the study results, the committee approved expanding two existing fire stations, in Manotick and Greely, within the next 10 years, to keep pace with projected community growth and increased demand for fire services.

To ensure the service can meet demand until 2034, the study examined the placement of fire stations, resources and personnel across Ottawa and analysed incident response times, resource allocation and operational factors. To anticipate future needs, the study considers population data, growth trends and service demand, including environmental disaster response.

The study found that current fire stations are well placed to provide optimal coverage, and that there is no immediate need to build new stations.

Two existing stations, in Manotick and Greely, would be renovated and staffed with additional full-time personnel to ensure they can meet rising demand and serve their growing communities. The expanded stations would move to a deployment model that supports a response time of 7 minutes and 13 seconds.

  • Station 94 at 5669 Manotick Main Street would be able to reach a population of 7,852 residents, encompassing 3,540 households and businesses within the village and surrounding area.

  • Station 93 at 6891 Parkway Road in Greely would be able to reach a population of 11,480 residents, encompassing 5,205 households and businesses within the village and surrounding area.

Funding for both expansions would be sought through future annual budget processes in the year in which the funding is needed, starting in the 2027 budget for Manotick, and in the 2030 budget for Greely.

Items from this meeting will rise to Council on Wednesday, February 26.
