True! the crude price certainly has a decisive impact on gas prices, and the crude prices have steadily declined since the geopolitical tension eased a bit, and Potus' " Drill baby drill" rhetorics. However, seasonality plays a role as well.
The reason that gas prices stay elevated for the time being is because of seasonality. Spring & Fall are refineries' regularly scheduled maintenance season. Maintenance at refineries can significantly impact gas prices. During these periods, refineries temporarily shut down or reduce operations to do maintenance. This leads to a decrease in gas production resulting in a tight supply. So when supply is limited and demand remains steady, gas prices tend to rise.
Another reason for gas prices up or down in Spring and Fall is a different seasonal blend gas. For us, the summer gas will come in late April to early May, which will be a different price.
