Don't know if you have ever noticed when you return to China with a Chinese passport, the Chinese (Beijing/Shanghai?) immigration officer checks your passport much more carefully than he checks a westner's.

It was 100% embarrassing when a lot of foreigners passed the officer easily and the line got stuck for a while because the officer was carefully checking every page of my passport with other foreigners watching behind me.
"I AM A CITIZEN. They are NOT!" - This was what I thought at that time.

要不就是十年八年没回去过了吧？简直没有基本常识。

俺娘刚刚从国内回来。因为拿着加拿大护照，入境时老老实实用英文填好了申报表。哪知道边防的小子一看见黑眼睛黄皮肤的气就不打一处来：不是会写中文吗，去去去，填中文的申报表去！俺娘谨记临行前给她上的课：你以为你是谁！乖乖地重新填了一张表。

事情发生在2003年10月份，首都机场。

我估计也要快入籍了。确实很矛盾，明明心理认为自己是中国人却要放弃，为什么？我想人都是自私的，无人例外。入籍的好处摆在那儿，这大概是很多人入籍的原因吧。
加国是我生活的国家。而中国是我心中的国家，想放弃也不可能呀！

That was quite sevral years ago. You guys are too young to know and understand this. This shows how a government treats its citizen.

Even now, you can watch CNN in a luxury hotel where foreigners stay even if you are a Chinese citizen but is absolutely illegal to install a receiver to watch CNN at your home.

People always complain western contries don't treat Chinese citizens with dignity. But the more serious problem is that even Chinese officials don't treat Chinese people with dignity, no matter what citizenship you have. As long as you are a Chinese, you will always be 2nd-class at best. This is the fact, sad.

By the way, a lot of countries have citizen-only lanes when entering their own country and are given priority.

98年第一次去美国出差，过美国海关时，美国citizen的出口人都走光了，而外国人的队伍还老长老长。哪些好心情的悠闲的citizen口的官员把我们招呼过去，一高兴多给了我几个月的签证期。
回国时，从香港坐火车到广州入境。有很多外国人入口，有台胞入口，还有港澳同胞入口，却怎么也找不到国内同胞的入口。去问，没人爱答理。等所有的人都走光了。就剩我自己了。才让我过去。要我把所有的东西，包括精心包好的礼品都拆了检查。最后实在找不到可刁难的东西。就让我给他们解释英文技术资料上写的什么。我说我看不懂英文，公司让带回来就带了，你们找翻译来看吧。这才放行。这就是一等公民的待遇。

不过您不知道这世上有“发展”一词吗？

Don't think the guys expressing their negative views are that old. In most cases, they just experience more, see more and inevitably think more independently - due mostly to their work experience.

Your own knowledge of bigger stuff, like nation and society comes from small things that you touch and feel everyday - not only from books and newspaper.

This is the key differentiator.
Amigo, you are right, there is generation gap, even I may be only 5 years older than you.
