a tragedy always has a stronger impact than any comedy. Only by tragic reflection will you realize how weak and defenceless you really are, if only ephemeral. A story is a story. While the plot is a little too dramatic, I enjoyed how the author was able to bring everything back to the dream state by reflecting back to childhood and youth. What starts as a dream ends as a dream.
In terms of character, the author was very successful in creation and development. In the beginning, I didn't like Lan, mainly because of her ignorance and self-absorption. But as she grew, I grew to undertand her, that her flaws are at least partially due to the environment.
It makes me realize that what looks placid may have probably weathered storms unfathomable. Our perception what what is true is merely a slice of reality. The universe if infinity, I am limited, but I can enjoy what I can of life.
