Cable vs. ADSL 差不多吗?

The buddy downstairs of my room use cable as well as me,but his thing is about 1.6times faster than mine,I think it varies from hardware's capability,'coz I use laptop with AMD850 256Memory,he use PC with Celeron900 320Memory.</HTML>

<HTML>Maybe. My old PC is with Celeron 400 & 192Mb memory. But my ADSL internet speed tested as the above is far from constant as expected. Hope to know more test results from Sympatico ADSL user. My location is on the north of Rideau Center.</HTML>

Go to http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks, there is a tweak
tester on that page. Run that test, it will tell you if
there are any problems with your configuration.

There is a small tool
http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP019.exe, you can
download and run it to play with different configurations
(You need to restart your machine every time you change
your settings).

To me, the most important factor is RcvWindow. Currently
I set it as 17520: 12 * (1500 - 40). 1500 is the MTU.

Rogers is doing transition on its network. It's very hard
to tell what can affect your speed. Before the transition
started, I can get 2Mbps. Right now I can only go as high
as 1.3Mbps.</HTML>

<HTML>I think the max speed of rogers is faster than Sympatico.The capacity of Sympatico cable modem is 1Mbps. I don't know the rogers one but I'm sure it is beyond 1Mbps.</HTML>

<HTML>Bandwidth is not the only issue sometimes. If you need independent ip address for your PCs, you don't wanna setup internet sharing, DSL might be the only choice coz you can share DSL modem directly. Most VPN need independent ip as far as I can tell.</HTML>
