请问渥太华地区的移动通讯公司有支持3G的吗？

3G嘛,就是 3 generation. 也不是什么新技术, 好像大约4年前就开始搞了.
近来看过香港报纸对3G的评测.
对一般使用者感觉只是多了像webcam一样的一边通话一边看到对方.
顶多再用手机上上网(一般你都不需要啦. 而且用手机上网也不需它)

感觉真是一般.

Now here is GSM + GPRS which is 2.5 G. The 3 G is W-CDMA. Those things are mostly about wireless WAN access. Which means you will have a wide band data communication access from the cell phone. 2.5G gives you about 128K BW for wireless internet, the 3G want to do 1.5M.

Even it's been deployed, it will be expensive. For now, in north america, very few people use GPRS, even MMS is not very frequently used. So, it will take a while before you can see 3G here.

1. 无线电频率资源是有限的（非常有限的）宝贵资源，所以注定3G将会比较昂贵。（这条是中国邮电某专家说的）

2. 便携式、手持无线通信设备的大小有限，用来进行 Web Access，意思不大。 （本人感觉）

好像英国现在很流行3G，手机都特别大，但是据说功能都超强的~
而且还能接收卫星电视，能看英超~
不过加拿大这边用不了，不然就弄一个回来了

我准备将2G的手机取消了。要3G干什么？
用那么小的东西上网、接收电视， 没兴趣。
大陆有钱的、没钱的，都喜欢赶时髦， 香港人也一样，这是没法子的事。

3G的标准有好几种,W-CDMA是其中一种,是从GSM上发展来的. 还有一种CDMA2000是从现在的IS-95的CDMA基础上发展来的. 当然还有大唐正在拼命鼓吹的TD-SCDMA.

感觉以下两个问题将非常阻碍3G发展 （请各位大侠指教）

1. 无线电频率资源是有限的（非常有限的）宝贵资源，所以注定3G将会比较昂贵。（这条是中国邮电某专家说的）
In theory, 3G does't require more RF bandwidth than 1G or 2G. It just uses the BW more efficienetly by upgrading the current mobile system to 3G compatible. Just like in the GSM network, 1.8G network can handler 4 times amount of users in a same area, compare to 800Mhz network.
It will be expensive at beginning, because Telco's need to buy lots of equipment to upgrade the network to 3G, but price will drop later. Telecom service price is based on statistical customer usage, so, more customer will keep the price down, but do not riase the cost of telcom.

2. 便携式、手持无线通信设备的大小有限，用来进行 Web Access，意思不大。 （本人感觉）

When it's cheaper, you can use your cell phone as a modem for your note book computer. Suppose you can get a service like this, I bet you will probably cancel Rogers cable: $50 per month, unlimited wireless access within ontairo(or 2G download, good enough for most people), 1.5M bps BW. That's are real freedom for most travellers or business people.
Fido now has a trial serives (probably 2G) called iFido. You can check it out.

我觉得3G真正的好处就象上一位说的，是WLAN的功能，比如带着一个小笔记本在公司干点儿私活什么的，
炒炒股票，上网聊聊天，至于视频，音频什么的，我觉得意义不大，带宽而且肯定不够的。或者以后有人
做WLAN的BT一类的下载也说不定。

GSM+GPRS受限于其技术，带宽不能太宽，所以才会搞真正的3G，使用CDMA技术的。
