visit the shelter at 11 River St. Applications to adopt a pet can be submitted online. The adoption department is open Monday to Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. and on weekends from noon to 6 p.m.

The society has cut adoption fees for cats to $25 from $100. The cost includes vaccinations to date, two months of Shelter Care insurance, a microchip identification implant and flea-control treatment.

But the agency won't be giving its charges away to just anyone. Naturally, someone who doesn't agree with spaying or neutering or plans to let the cat outside won't be eligible to adopt.
