I've been looking at the jobs in the Government and some of them are
PERFECT for me, but the only thing is I need secret or enhanced security
clearance which I don't have. My question is, How can I get it ( I
heard it cost about $800 to get) and do Job agencies do that for you and
if so which ones? I have applied to many agencies and I have not heard
from any of them.

I can't count how many times I filled out the forms at agencies for security
clearance. And, I still don't have it. Bastards never intended to send
them off. Just wanted to make me feel they were doing something for me I
guess. So don't depend on agencies to do it for you. Deal directly with the
gov't

PS. Wear an "I love Cretin" pin when you go.

There are several dozen types of clearance that I've seen in the last 12
years or so, and only 2 or 3 are relevant for most positions posted...gov,
or not.

Enhanced security clearance - police, or RCMP station....almost any
one...costs about $25 last time I went a few years ago, and all they check
is to see if you are not wanted in the regional database. Takes 10 min.

Secret clearance - more comprehensive, and I believe the background check
not only covers all of Canada, but also goes back something like 3-5 years.
- costs about $100, if you are incorporated, if not, then you need a
'sponsor', such as a friend who is incorporated, and holds a secret
clearance, or a recognized agency who can do it for you. Takes anywhere from
2-8 weeks, depending on what position you apply for.....the criteria depends
on the job you are applying for.
PWGSC web site will guide you on that.

Top Secret clearance - the highest you will need, other than CSIS, RCMP, and
some gov jobs, more these days than before, and a lot harder to get....takes
a complete background check, taking into account any, and all information
gathered on you in the last 10 years....including family information, and
even background check on family themselves, or any partners you may reside
with. I have no idea of the cost, but know it can take up up to 6-8 months
to get...again, depending on what you are applying for. PWGSC will help you
with that as well.

Hope this helps.
;)

Wow. The best part about that is you are WRONG.

Clearances are provided bu PWGSC or the Military and have F*CK ALL to
do with the RCMP, etc. The $25 you are yammering about is for a
criminal record check. You get one of those if you want to volunteer
in sensitive areas like CAS.

Secret and Top Secret cost NOTHING. But here's the catch: They just
don't give you one for no reason. Before you yammer on like you know
something, you don't. I have a secret clearance. You ONLY get them
IF YOU HAVE A NEED FOR THEM. Otherwise, FORGET IT. Your Employer or
Agency can sponser you for Enhanced Reliability, but that's it.

There.

First off you don't pay for your clearance.

Thats bonded. But enhanced reliability is usually quite quick and most
agencies will do that for you

Background check is 10 years.
This actually takes 8-12 months to get longer if you traveled a lot and much
longer if you have been to communist countries. Only a company can apply
as a sponsor for the person. The company must have both a need for that
clearance and have the appropriate security setup so not just any
incorporated company can do this.

Background check is 15 years.
RCMP (Secret) CSIS and CES only require TOP SECRET and that takes upwards of
1 year to obtain however they will consider you if you have secret, and will
apply for top secret on your behalf. Upon completion of the Top Secret
clearance they will bring you in for an interview.

Hope this helps.... Thanks to the person I ammended for trying to help.

Trina.

If anyone charges you money for the clearence.... they are crazy.. as
one of the other responce said... it does not cost anything. I have mine
since 97, my friend just had her top secret renewed and did not cost
anything.
