It's not easy, but don't give up

<HTML>I don't know what's your major, for Hi-Tech in Ottawa, tons of experienced IT professionals got lay-off last year. But it doesn't mean that there is no chance.

I landed in Ottawa in May 2001, 7 weeks later I got my job offer as a software designer in a network giant here.

There is still IT positions here in Ottawa, however, the job market is extremely competative. I agree that postpone landing time is a wise decision, but don't give up before you try.

Best wishes to everybody</HTML>

Re: It's not easy, but don't give up

<HTML>The only problem most new Chinese immigrants face is verbal Enlish. I have two suggestions here:
1. Get a MCSD (Microsoft certified solution devloper) if you want to be a software engineers.
2. Publish a technical article in an Enlish professional software journal.
These two achievements will surely guarantee a job offer for you.
But always try to improve your verbal English as hard as possible because good verbal English can also help you to live more happily.</HTML>

Re: It's not easy, but don't give up

Ask yourself twice on why you immigrant if you have a good
career in China?
But I agree with CloudRain.
Be positive.
Personally I love Canada. Enjoy all the beauty of culture
and nature. But I came to Canada young. That makes a big
difference on adaption.

How to survive in Canada? Three factors: a). A diploma from a Canadian university in not so cold subject; b). A near perfect resume in Canadian standards; c). Being a good salesperson to sell yourself out, inclduing good oral English, a sense of humor and no so bad brain.

On Dec 28 I posted my note under this topic. And I am happy two direct responses as then they still have my email. They are totally diffrent ideas about this topic +/-.
In this period I have experinced two jobs. One offered but canceled in 3 days. Another one is premised and will start in a week.
Note I am not the EE or Code guys but with backgroud in mechnical / IE.
Be positive. Respect yourself. Action quickly. Help others and also yourself.

Yeah, totally agree with Sheng.
Complains do not help getting a job, except lowering down yourself, emotionally. Take some actions quickly, that's the way to go.
Good luck, every Chinese here in Canada!

Congrates, sheng. Good luck in your new job!
