确实是Minto建的.非常关心的是到底这些个破洞(不止一个)会不会给补上,不补的话会不会将来造成什么后果(漏雨,不保暖,等等).这层 black board 的用途是什么?多谢.

Don't worry...there is a stage called frame checking during the house building...they will fill the holes for you..but de but, the builders should not use this crappy wall with holes for you in the first place...

The building code is fairly generous to the builders...but different builders have their own QA controls...Minto is a bad potato:o

agree, OBC just for the safety, builder they can use cheapest materials and bad area to build those houses, as long as not crash down, like Avalon and Chapman Mills before were pond area..some houses already have cracks becuase the shifting. they may responsible for fix it, but u spend lots of money to buy a house which already has cracks..u will never feel comfortable even they fix for u. and some shifting as i said ealier,it will takes 5 yrs to show up.

Many houses build by Minto found cracks within one year. It does not need to wait for five years. My house and my neighbour's houses already have more than one cracks.

A worker on Minot building site told me that the black board may not be stronger as others but it has a good resistance to noise.

Last weekend I complained to one of the sales representiative. She said "don't worry. I wouldn't concern about that." It seems that she was not surprised about that at all. Since we are living too far from our new house, it is hard to visit the site every day. I just hope Minto can fix those holes.
Thanks everyone to provid useful info and your opinions!

I wouldn't worry about cracks either, since structural defects are covered under the ONHWP, thus you have 7 years to complain.

I said normally takes 5 yr done the shifting, some cracks will show up later.

if ur house build on pond area or sand...cracks will show up ealier.

best is on the rocks

cracks is very important to ur house, if those cracks from ur foundation wall. if there are just surface cracks, u can fix urself,
but if the crack is more than 1/2 inch..u have to really becareful!

as i said, you are the one live in that house, no one likes to have cracks on their house, especially on the foundation wall.

The Ontario Building Code requirements for structural steel are minimum requirements!!!
even the soil cost the problem, the Builder can increase the size of steel and the number of pieces of steel for very little extra cost(before 1991, they did good on this), but now in most cases the builder don't give a dam. even u file the complains, they have nothing to do with it after the warranty, even in the warranty, they just come to fix cracks on the surface for u,doesn;t really fix the real problems, but u are the one live in there>>>are u feel comfortable?? u pay hardworking saved money, get a less qaulity house?? u not ganna worry?? and feel nothing if there are some cracks on ur house foundation?? come on!
Imagine if the builders spending less than a thousand dollars up front for a simple consult and extra steel instead of paying many thousands of dollars to repair a weak foundation at a later date.
they just want to rip u off even for few thousand $$.

I do not mind these cracks at all. Almost every neighbour's house has cracks. No one think it is a big deal. Why do I bother?

What is the structural steel? When workers poured concret mud to build foundation, I found no steel bar at all in the foundation. The foundation was just a block of concrete. It is not strange to have many cracks. The present houses are all built by this way. I do not know what you really talking about.

Some homes use steel structural beams, others use the traditional wood beams. Each has its own pros and cons. Steel beams are more expensive, but they melt like spaghetti when there is fire. Wood beams are cheaper, although they burn in fire, they actually last longer.

In some areas where the foundation is not stable (e.g. Conroy/Hunt Club), houses are reinforced by extra steel poles to hold the foundation. However some builders, namely Richcraft and Claridge, only used two steel poles instead of 4, and this has caused some houses to shift, garages to be detached from the main house and other problems. We have talked about this in this forum before.

It's unfortunate when something like this happens, but I don't believe we have any other choice. Builders will not put extra effort just to please one client. Let's face it, it's still a seller's market.
