<HTML>Hello everybody!! My name is Alex, I am studying in CU,I have some problems in my writing skill, can you help me ?
can you give me some suggestions? Thank you!</HTML>

<HTML>Let me know what is your problem, see whether I can help</HTML>

<HTML>My own experience is to read English books. They might be too hard in the beginning, but try something easier like a best-seller or newspapers. Watch TV, as fishy as it sounds, watching TV dramatically improved my vocabulary.
Send me something you wrote, maybe I can make a few suggestions.</HTML>

<HTML>Why not take an ESL course in CU? They will help you more professionally.

Do some reading and writing everyday. In terms of reading material, I would recommend New Concept English Book 3 and 4, Mcclean. Watching TV will improve your listening comprehension and vocabulary. Paying attention on your textbook is also a good idea. See how the authors develop their ideas. You are in Canada, you can get access to English everywhere, anytime.

BE A SPONGE, ABSORB EVERYWHERE, ANYTIME!</HTML>

<HTML>use new concept english III or IV with chinese translation as a textbook:

1. go over quickly the english essay and try to remember as much as you can.

2. try to rewrite the exact copy of the essay in reference to the chinese translation without seeing the english content.

3. repeat the step 1 and 2 until you can rewrite the essay exactly.

after 3 months' practice and you'll get there.

good luck</HTML>

<HTML>Do you know CAEL? I don't know how to use the reading and listening for for my writing?</HTML>

<HTML>Thank you for everyone. I had take the ESL course in CU last term, maybe I didn't work hard,so ……. By the way, where can I buy the new concept english III or IV ?</HTML>

If you are mainly concerned with your English writing skills, I would suggest that you take a full-term English course from the English department (rather than an ESL). The one I took about 4 years ago at Carleton U is 18105 (English & Writing, taught by Prof. James).

However, you must be prepared to spend a lot of time to finish all the writing assignment on time. There is no other easy way learning English writing than to writing a lot and correcting-improving.
No sweating, no harvesting!
