When I came here, the exchange rate from U.S. dollar to Canadian dollar was 1.1:1. That was 14 years ago. I don't see why it cannot go back there. Good for us who are making Canadian dollars. I hope one day the exchange rate becomes 1:1, so the currency can be united (i.e. no need for Canadian dollar and everyone gets U.S. dollar or "North Amercan euro")

The last time C$ worth more than US$, is November 1976. Before the election of Parti Quebecois. Prior to that, most of the time C$ are either at par or worth more than US $.

The 1990s are the golden age of America, for the first time in a long time, America has no obvious enemy and is not at war, and there is this huge IT high-tech boom.

In 2001, both of these two conditions(no war and IT boom) disspeared, so it is quite reasonable for US $ to decline. This decline won't reverse itself anytime soon.
