So about 1000 Nortel staffs will be out of job in Ottawa?

Heard JDS lay-off yesterday (Aug. 29)and some more next week.

Where you get this number? One thing I know for sure is that Optical Component is out of scope of 7,000 cut. Nortel is still looking for sell the unit, they have totally 1,500 people. So the total number of the people let go should be: 7,000 + 1,500 = 8,500.

Nortel: 95,000 45,000 32,000
Ottawa: 17,000 8,500 ???

The last cut Q2'02: total 3,500 Ottawa 1,000.
This time: total 7,000 Ottawa ???

It was told by one analyst. Some data (like wireless) has been confirmed by NT Wireless guy.

I really don't appreciate this kind of gossip. If that was an intelligent estimate, please have the courtesy to back what you said by evidence or a serious analysis. It was confusing, misleading, in short just a load of xxxx! Thanks for wasting my time!

Take it easy! It is NOT my guess. If you believe it, take it. If not, just kick it out.

Anyway, this data makes sense that profit earning product got less hit even 0% hit(like CDMA). For those products which lost money got much hit.

How CLEARLY do you want? Do you want me to indicate who will be affected? I am not genius. You may hire CIA to get the exact information which I can NEVER get.

When you post something like this and it WILL affect a lot of people, do you think you should be more carefully in what you are saying? Or at the very least have the courtesy to state that "this is my own guess" or "this is from someone I know who heard it from a person whose husband works for Nortel in Wireless"?
