THE GRADUATE PROGRAMS
Through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the School offers the M. A. in Historical Musicology and in Musicology with Performance, the M. Mus. in Performance and in Composition, and a Ph. D. in Musicology.
THE MASTER'S PROGRAMS
The academic requirements for entrance are:
a B. Mus. or B. A. in music or its equivalent from a recognized university
at least a B+ average in the last two years (30 units) of undergraduate study
And in addition:
Applicants to the Performance and Musicology with Performance programs must submit a high quality tape of a recent performance.
Applicants to the Musicology and Musicology with Performance programs must submit copies of two essays written for recent music history courses.
Applicants to the Composition program must submit scores and tapes of recent compositions.
The Master's programs require a minimum of 18 units of credit, with the exception of Musicology with Performance, which requires 19. The residence requirement is two full winter sessions; the degree will not be awarded in less than two years from the time of registration.
A number of fellowships with a value of approximately $12,000 are available to the most highly qualified students. Most of those who are not successful in obtaining a fellowship will receive Graduate Teaching Assistantships, depending on their abilities and the needs of the School.
Application should be made by January 15 of the year in which the student wishes to register. Later applications will be considered if space is available. The deadline for fellowship consideration is February 15.
A Handbook of Graduate Studies in Music, which contains more detailed information about the various programs, is available from the School.
