Sometimes the department store will give discount for applying their credit card, such as Sears card, bay card, you can try those. You will get the discount no matter or not if you will get the credit card.

Be patient, first one is the most difficult one.

Getting a credit card from the department stores is not easier than from the banks. They check the credit record as well.

After I got my CIBC visa by depositing $1000 in this bank, I applied the SEARS card and got rejected. The lady in SEARS did tell me why but advised me to call the credit bureau. I did, the lady in the credit bureau said there was nothing wrong with my credit record, SEARS reject my application probably because I had not had a credit record long enough.
