My experience of giving bath to cats is as follows:
1. Don't spray water on the cat's head, particularly eyes, ears and nose.
2. Flatten the cat's ears to prevent water from getting into the ear canals. Cat's ears are very vulnerable to infections.
3. Make sure your cat can climb to a relatively safe place away from water, like edge of tub.
4. Try to use still water as much as possible, try not to use running water, the sound makes the cat very nervous.
5. Use a cat shampoo, never use a human shampoo, it dries up the cat's skin
6. Keep sweet-talking to the cat during the bath, it helps to calm the cat down, also helps to divert attention a little bit.
7. Don't blow dry the cat, dab excess water away using a big towel, and let the cat dry herself/himself.
8. Be as quickly as you can.
