Sorry cannot type Chinese in office.

I try to bring kid back to Beijing for a relatively long period (years),
and need a birth nortarization/certification from Chinese embassy
here.

I just called the embassy, and was told the birth certification
need to be nortarized/certificated by Ministry of Foreign Affairs
of Canada before sent to Chinese embassy. The officer said he doesn't
know how to get the Canadian nort/cert, but "a lot of Chinese here"
know how to do it.

Does anyone know? Thanks a lot.

What is china embassy telephone?

I am interested in the same problem. What china embassy telephone did you call?

1. 把孩子的出生证, 长长的那一张, 上面有父母名字签字的, 做一份复印件, 找律师做公证, 证明是原件的真实复印件. 律师是收费的;

Thanks a lot KaiXi! It's very clear, I shall put it into my own JinHua
collection.

One more question, I only have the original birth certificate (small
one), and don't have the longer one you mentioned (certified copy) on
hand. Could that be a problem?

To mossback:
It depends on what kind of visa you'll apply, but normally
one year. It used to be two years if you apply to have grand-parent
take care of your kid(s), but it becomes one year effective 2005/1/1.
Hope this helpful.

long form of birth certificate: you need to apply for this at the same place you get the wallet size one(short form). you need pay extra $75(or $70?). urgent service is available without extra charge.
in fact I think it's even easier to extend visa in china for every 6 months.

But, one can only extend (6mo) visa up to twice. After that, s/he
must leave China and apply again from outside. This is OK if living
in somewhere close to HK, like Shenzhen, but it's very incovenient
for one lives in BJ.

I went thru these a few years ago, as far as I know the Chinese embassy is usually pretty generous for this kind of situation: ur best bet is to apply for "fostering 寄养" and with this, you can have a valid stay permit in China for up to 2-3 years (don't remmebmer exactly what it was then) and thereafter, you can apply for extension from within China.

I wasn't asked to provide a notorised copy of birth certificate: just a birth certificate to prove his/her relationship to you as parents, a passport and then the fees. Chinese staff there were very friendly.

One important reminder: never let your visa expire, apply for extension way ahead of expiry date so as to allow for the necessary processing time [especially if you are in Bj ] or you will be facing very severe consequencess like hefty fines, Chinese police department is very serious about it, not one day beyond the validity or you will run into big troubles exiting China.

good luck

Just consult weeks ago, and here are some updates:
1, "fostering 寄养" is now only for ONE year.
2, The fine for visa expiration is RMB 500 per day.
